Ptosis – Upper Eyelids
Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelid. The lid may droop only slightly or it may cover almost all of the pupil. In some cases, ptosis can restrict and even block normal vision. (below left: pre–op Ptosis & below right: post–op Ptosis)
The levator muscle is responsible for elevating the eyelid. When the levator muscle becomes separated from the eyelid as a result of aging, cataract or other eye surgery, injury, or an eye tumor, drooping will develop. Sometimes a small tuck in the levator muscle and eyelid can raise the lid sufficiently. (below left: pre–op Ptosis & below right: post–op Ptosis)
