Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a progressive thinning of the cornea such that the cornea bulges and becomes cone–shaped, causing severe nearsightedness. As the disease progresses, the corneal bulge will continue to grow and contact lens wear can become impossible. Intacs, a type of corneal implant, may be inserted into the periphery of the cone, flattening the cornea and improving vision. (below: Bulging Cornea)
