CK
Conductive Keratoplasty or CK was created to correct presbyopia or the loss of near vision. People who are dependent on reading glasses to look at their cell phones, watches, or to read a newspaper are good candidates for this procedure.
CK involves no cutting and is not a laser. Instead, CK uses radio–frequency energy to reshape the cornea. Watch a demonstration (Quicktime Movie, 3.37MB – if you need the free Quicktime player, you may download it here)
Dr. Higa determines if patients are candidates for CK through a simple "loose lens" test which indicates how much correction is needed. This test also screens for the patient's ability to adapt to mono–vision, or the ability to use one eye to focus on near objects, and the other eye for distance.
The treatment is done in–office and takes very little time. With CK, most patients notice a difference immediately in their near vision. CK post–treatment down–time is minimal and most people resume normal activities the next day.
Dr. Higa performs the procedure at the Ala Moana office.
